……..e ancora Firenze: La mappa del Vino Toscano (English version)

This web-site is intended for anyone interested in Tuscany’s wines.
Tuscany is without doubt one of those wine regions that give some of the most important reds in the world. It is a region full of tradition, but in continuous evolution since the introduction of international grape varieties and the use of the French barriques that became common in the seventies. Beginning in the 80’s and through the 90’s the new wines, Super Tuscans, were a peak for Tuscan wine producers growing wines with an international taste that gave a very good name to the area. The appellation system was introduced in the sixties, but was very rigid and had yet very little to do with the quality of wine. The gradual modernization of the appellation system has now drawn our attention back to the traditional wines of the area made with the autochthon grape varieties and without excessive expression of the foreign oak barrels. Nowadays, the trend seems to be to go back in history to rediscover the indigenous grapes and natural wine making methods.
Fortunately, it is becoming clear to many that Tuscany is not only the land of the great Brunello and the award winning Super Tuscan, often available only to wine collectors. It is a region that has a great many interesting wines (pure and blends) made with indigenous grape varieties particular and unique to one little area that has its own specific soil composition and microclimate.
It is the intention to give partly some general and whenever possible more detailed information on wine making and wines available from Tuscany.
